Black Heart

Nestled in the heart of the black rose
pursed between its twin petals
is a stalk of serrated thorns.

A black mamba slithers
in the hush of the graveyard
ready to strike with venom-injecting fangs,
A vampire out on a full-moon night
to quench his thirst for a virgin’s blood.

Do the black-painted lips of a maiden
punch with a wallop same as the vampire’s bite?
Does it mean the end of mortality
and the beginning of an afterlife?

Does black symbolizes mourning and repentance
or, challenges and sacrifices of love?

Black eyes, black heart, black thoughts
black magic and black night foreshadow
the coming of black plague, or
The Odin’s messengers, Huginn and Muninn,
foretelling the end and a new beginning?
Only, the coming days will tell.
