City Nights

Wet pavement in the dark
a river of glistening black
    reflecting
city lights
stop and go nights.

Reds and yellows--
gaudy jewels in the mist.
      Neon fires
lighting the way
for shuffling crowds.

Street corner jazz
fills the air--
      slow, hypnotic,
stirring my soul
I sway in time--

a pill for the masses
in the cool evening air.
      The city's rhythm
a subtle beat
ice and heat.

A swirl of colorful chaos
swept in shadow and light
      vital, alive,
on the midnight highway
on which I walk.
