concerning the season of thaw

i. earth and sun
the two spheres dance through space
seasonal tilt adds light on earth's face
rotate and revolve across dusky universe
cooler, hotter, indecisive in its curse
until the star burns at a faster rate
swallowing the earth; pale blue dot's fate

ii. earth
warmth returns in between seasons
frantic final winter flurry
shadow's cloak shrinks as the sun reaches
high and higher in the sky
icicles clutch against gravity
river creeks rise, leaves blush
hardened earth frozen and weepy
dawn's creatures awaken from night hush

iii. awakening
the calls of migrating geese
wake the children from their slumber
frosty eyes, snug, ruddy cheeks
while elders stretch calmly from their chamber
homes empty their families
into the spring air sweetly
playing by rivers as they rise
in the thaw, souls breathe deeply
