Empty Promises

by brynlee

Your fingers laced into mine,
Your scent evaded all my senses,
Your touch still lingers upon my skin,
Glances in between each passing moment,
You had grinned,
I looked away,
Betrayal of oneself,
Not ever admitting how I truly felt.

My thoughts that never turned into words,
Your words that never turned into actions,
Forever leaving me with unresolved thoughts.

My breathing remains uneasy,
You have evaded every last space within my mind,
Every moment replays on loop,
Like a broken record player,
I can’t help but wonder where I went wrong.

Weeks have now passed,
I stand here alone, waiting for you,
Picking myself apart,
Attempting to find the deal-breaking flaw,
Helplessly trying to rebuild myself,
All in attempts to become the girl,
That would’ve made you stay.
