Free Fall
Above the world, heart so high,
It’s like I’m floating in the sky.
Everything seems to be just right,
And in that moment, the world feels light.
Tentative, I take a step,
The white, fluffy surface making me forget.
All my troubles lose their place,
As I prance through this feathery haze.
I feel a shift, the air grows thin.
The wind is whistling past my skin.
As I glance up, way up high,
The clouds recede, a distant sigh.
The clouds vanish from under my feet,
Leaving nothing but the ground to meet.
My stomach drops, panic in my eyes,
As I plunge through these open skies.
I land hard, gradually rolling to a stop,
Mind is whirling, but my heartbeat drops.
I scramble to my feet, swaying side to side,
And look around me, nowhere to hide.
I look back up, clouds so far away,
It seems that I am here to stay.
Cold, hard reality grips me hard,
Looks like I have played my last card.
So, one foot in front of another it is,
Each step reminds me of where I’ve been.
I walk up the stairs, back towards the clouds,
My heart uncertain, shadowed with doubt.
But for now, the only way to go is forward.
