I'll Stay, Tonight

Do you have cream and sugar for morning coffee?
Will your bed spirit me to far away planets in my dreams?
Do your shelves contain the thoughts of all the philosophers who ever lived?
Do they hold the stories that explain us?
Are there animals for joy and comfort?
Above all, will there be stories?
And toast would be nice
Morning sunlight falling on yellowed pages
Read against the sound of birdsong
A warm body, a warm mind
To share ideas
And the heaviness of living
I’ll stay with you, tonight
Under starlight and velvet skies
We’ll dream in pain and laughter
And imagine the warmth of other stars on our skin
