LATERAL SHIFT

LATERAL SHIFT

I try to imagine I had a different life
One that had an alternate beginning
The past seems so distant, so unreal
It should be quite simple then, I feel
But what changes might it now bring
To fill the vacuum, now hope is rife

I look back to see that the gulf is vast
As I cannot answer the question why
Drain all what is left of what was full
But underneath I feel a constant pull
Yet a doubt remains, can I, should I
One isn’t allowed to rewrite the past

My current view is ever more strange
It begins its shift from current reality
What is the intrinsic value of adoption
For me, a system reboot is no option
I am me, and there is no new identity
That the stroke of a pen could change
