MORE THAN WORDS

MORE THAN WORDS

Images created with simile and metaphor
Are they allusion or illusion, I have to ask
Synchronicity and resonance, both at play
Each transporting readers in their own way
Yet sometimes well hidden behind a mask
To redefine meaning that was there before

Colourful imagery in each well-chosen word
Might offer yet another intriguing dimension
In stark contrast to the monochrome world
To trigger an emotion as if a flag is unfurled
A style that lurks on the edge of convention
Leaving explicit behind to embrace inferred

But dismissing the usual overworked phrases
A new reality is exposed, blinking in the light
As newborn, perhaps unsure of its existence
But growing confident with strong insistence
To pierce the eye, bringing that second sight
A worm awakened in the brain, that amazes

No respectful nod at the slow passing hearse
Nor replacing dry wilted flowers on any grave
One left waiting forever for any saving grace
As the new now secures its well-earned place
Tradition’s fine with recognition for the brave
Applause for evolution and revolution in verse
