Raptor Dance

To Leslie

Two red-tailed hawks above the burbs. They dance
on waves of atmosphere. One takes a chance,
plummeting toward the other in romance.

Above the streets and roofs they soar and frolic,
their ardor to link up in air symbolic
of a less polluted age. My melancholic

mood has lifted like their wings have lifted,
bearing them to such heights. The world is gifted
at causing awe. They’re gone. The wind has shifted.

Superb poem on one of nature's most majestic birds. I love the rhyme too. We have eagles and hawks in the area. Sometimes they perch momentarily on our fences or tree branches. We put up bird, "apartment houses." We have one, "tenant," that's moved in. All your writing is great, especially love the nature and celestial ones. Best Wishes, Miles. ~

Hi Regina. Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed this. It's great that you can get glimpses of those amazing birds where you live. Thanks for mentioning my penchant for writing on nature and astronomical topics. Those are, indeed, among my favorite subjects. All the best, Regina.
