The Sun's Last Sonnet
The mountain’s shadow sway
The sun falls over like rain,
If the light would only stay
The stars, be not beacons of pain?
The wisps of cloud smoke by
The gold of blood, and red of gold,
The stain of dusk streaks the sky
The trees whisper as we grow old
Sit beside me as the sun goes down
On this bridge where the darkness doesn’t touch,
The silence is thick all around
I ask only for time, but is that too much?
In the end, go home, lay down by the fireside,
Remember the blue of the flames as my eyes.
