Sunset by the Seine

By that gleaming river,
eternal resident of the City of Lights,
nearly shaded in night,
we delight ourselves in
croissants, champagne, and cabarets.

As young as we may be,
our love is the newest version of a ballad
that circulates and plays
through the vivid city
where romance has engraved its name.

Hand in hand, we roam the
avenues and get lost in the stream of people
until we find ourselves
besides the riverbanks,
looking at the burnt scarlet sky.

On a weathered beige bridge,
we admire the river's steady, pacing flow.
It has seen love many
times in many forms,
so nothing else needs to be said.

We kiss then saunter towards
the promise of a new day.
