Temptation

by

I'm writing out of pain and fear
Your heart, a sheet of paper
I almost put my name on it
Then thought about my Shaper

I'm writing out of love and lust
Your eyes, a diamond necklace
The way they spark could hypnotize
Was warned that it was reckless

I'm writing out of hope and shame
Your voice, a siren's calling
bound to the mast I stay, but still
In love you had me falling

I'm writing out of grief and doubt
Your skin, a flame of fire
My options: touch and turn to dust
Or burn down in desire

I'm writing out of anguish now
Not guilt or aching sorrow
Your heartfelt love for just one night
I'm asking you to borrow

But still, I fear, my gentle love
Will make you want to stay
Remorse will have me break your heart
I'm losing either way

I'm picturing my deathbed though
The scene is so depressing
Instead of you with me I'll have
A lifetime spent on guessing
