I didn't really know that fire could *careen*
towards you at 80mph,
a giant wave of orange hues
set against the soft morning light
hopelessly flailing
as someone tried to avoid a collision -

I discovered later -
stale toast in hand at stale diner,
grimy TV on grimy wall -
my magical wall of fire was just
a truck carrying toilet paper.

In a way, it's the most beautiful
most expensive
sunrise I've ever seen.
