Because I never cared for fame

Because I never cared for fame.
Fame came and cared for me;
I who had sent her soul to shame,
And hell, and infamy.

Because I never cared for fame,
Fame came and cared for me;
God-glowing now with hearts aflame,
We brook our ecstasy.
