I'll not be long with you, mother

I'll not be long with you, mother
I soon must say good-bye.
But, mother, we shall meet again
In God's bright home on high.

Mother, don't you know you said
Sweet sister's living there;
And that she is an angel too
So beautiful and fair.

Oh mother, I shall wear bright wings,
And be an angel too;
And there before God's golden throne,
I'll kneel and pray for you.

She'll know me when I come, mother,
She'll take me by the hand.
We'll always be together there
In yonder's peaceful land.

Lean closer down your ear, mother
My voice is growing weak.
You're weeping now, I felt a tear
Just fall upon my cheek.

Oh mother do not weep for me,
I'm not afraid to die.
Your lips are trembling, and I see
The tears are in your eye.

My eyes are growing dim, dear
I hear sweet music from the skies;
It is for me, I am going away
So mother, dear, good-bye.
