Pearl - Part 53

“But grace enough have innocents;
as soon as they are born, by rule
in the water of baptism they descend;
then are they to the vineyard brought.
Anon the day, with darkness fleck'd,
unto Death's might doth make them bow
who ne'er wrought wrong ere thence they went.
The gentle Lord His folk then payeth;
they did His will, they were therein
Why should He not allow their hire,
yea, pay them at the first day's close?
The grace of God is great enough.
