Natasha Trethewey, winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for poetry, holds the Phillis Wheatley Distinguished Chair in Poetry at Emory University.
Trethewey says of her forthcoming volume, "Thrall is in many ways about one's calling as an artist, about apprenticeship to a master,
about the idea of racial difference codified by the Enlightenment, such ideas represented in paintings and my relationship to my father."
