Mistress Comfort
Little Mistress Comfort got up early one fine day,
She swept her little porch, and cleaned
The knocker on her door,
She gave her little cat some milk,
Her little cow some hay,
She fed her little cocks and hens,
Then swept her little floor.
She filled a little platter with some porridge, nice and hot,
She ate her little breakfast,
Then she climbed her little stair;
She shook her little pillows up,
She made her little cot
And all her little house so clean
And shining everywhere.
She sat down by her spinning-wheel and spun a little thread,
She made a little loaf for tea.
She mended her red cloak.
As busy as a bee she was,
And ere she went to bed
She set a little crock of cream
For chance-come Fairy Folk.
Then tired Mistress Comfort sweetly slept
The whole night through,
In the morning, when she woke, she found a
S IXPENCE IN HER SHOE .
