The Airman's Breastplate

I arise above the clouds
Armoured in the strength of God's
Presence and omnipotence
That can drive all evil hence.

I arise in Heaven's might,
In the splendour and the sight
Of the Sun; and with the ire
Of Lightning and irresistible Fire.

Stabilised upon my road,
Held up by the might of God,
With God's wisdom for my light;
Eye of God for my foresight;
Ear of God to help my hearing;
Word of God to give a bearing.

Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ above me, Christ below me;
Christ to be my guard abounding
Against drowning, burning, wounding:
Christ in all I do and dare:
Christ in me to win His war.
