Against the Friars

Thou that sellest the word of God,
Be thou barfoot, be thou shod,
Cum nevere here!
In principio erat verbum
Is the word of God all and sum
That thou sellest, lewed frere.

It is cursed simonye
Either to selle or to bye
Any gostly thing.
Therfore, frere, go as thou come,
And hold thee in thy hous at home
Til we thee almes bring.

Goddes lawe ye reversen,
And mennes houses ye persen,
As Paul bereth witness;
As midday develes going aboute,
For money lowle ye loute,
Flattering both more and less.
