Lines by the Late Lord Tennyson

Of old sat Freda on the heights
The letters strewn about her feet.
She watched from far the local sights,
She saw the neighbours meet.

She murmured much of fools and worms,
Self-censured in her Christian mind,
And fragments of abusive terms
Came rolling on the wind.

Yet came she down when gongs had pealed
In friendship to our feasting place,
Removed her goggles and revealed
The fulness of her face.
