My Star
I
There is a star I love,
Oh! very much;
I see it when the dusk
And day-time touch.
II
It is not very large,
Or very clear;
But though its light is dim,
'Tis very dear.
III
It is a friend to me,
I understand;
Although it never, never speaks,
Or takes my hand
IV
Each dusk I sit with it
A little while;
I do not have to make believe,
Or have to smile.
V
But just be what I am,
Until I know,
'Tis time to kiss my hand
To it, — and go.
