The Captain

What did the noble captain do,
Facing the death and dark,
So many souls in jeopardy
On his beloved bark?

What did the fearless captain say,
Or e'er he knew the worst?
" The women and the children, "
Was his order first.

Did he look up and calmly pray,
Facing the dark and din,
" God, let me die a thousand deaths,
But moor my vessel in " ?
