When on the shore, sometimes reclined at ease,
Ye bless the pure soft sky that o'er you glows,
Pity the crew, to whom on angry seas
The storm forbids repose!

Deem ye that thanks for them would be amiss —
Too weary further efforts to pursue —
Whose fingers, ere they sink in the abyss,
Point out the port for you?
