To Mrs. Moody, of Turnham Green

A GAIN we live; and Spring is at the heart,
Though Winter opens the returning year —
'Tis Friendship that a sun-beam can impart,
Whose glowing shadows like the morn appear.
She , by no mirrour of the date perplex'd,
Feels not a chord of harmony unstrung, —
Calls the past year a witness for the next ,
And prompts " the note of Time , " that she is young .
