Another for Christmas Day

A WAKE my harp to chearful sound,
On ev'ry tuneful string;
Rejoice, and laud, ye nations round,
The earth's imperial King.

Rejoice—this day of humble birth,
Of needy virgin too;
Was born a Saviour,—wake O earth!
MAHOMET! PAGAN! JEW!

Wake O my harp;—no common theme
Invites thy trembling pow'rs;
No idle fiction, airy dream,
But angels, such as yours.
