The Holy Two
" Thou child, that wouldst be a woman unto me, thou woman, that wouldst be a child to me, the Holy Spirit resteth on thy brow — yet lo: the world is blind! "
— Thou man, to whom alone I would belong, thou man, thou child — too kind thy word! Not on my brow doth the Holy Spirit rest — in thine eyes is its dwelling place.
" Thou rest, vouchsafed to me by God, thou greater bliss, than e'en I sought, thou happy unrest of my life — behold, who knoweth here thy worth? "
— Thou weary one, rest thy life with me; thou sad one, drop thy tear with me; thou strong one, soar aloft with me! — 'Tis good none other knoweth thee.
" Thou heart that wouldst in thee enclose me, thou soul that in me wouldst dwell, my soul burneth at thy feet — yet lo: the world is cold before thee! "
— Ah see, thy soul burneth at my feet, yet all the world looks coldly at me — oh let us shut against the world the portal of our sacrosanct.
