58 The Freenese of Grace in Its Actings -
The freenese of grace in its actings
The freenese of thy grace is strange
When we consider itt
And in thesse thoughts, let our souls range
what wonders, we do meet
Of fallen man, thou dost refuse
the most, and pase them by
yet out of them, some thou dost chouse,
noe reason given why.
Thou chousest out, somtimes the worst
to be heirs, of thy grace
Whilst better natures, ar acurst
for ever, from thy face.
The glorious, angels for one sin
in Chains of darknese ly
Whilst rebels, ar, chouse by their king
to be set up, on high.
Some thou dost pull back, from the sourse
and torent, of mankinnd
The rest ar left, to take their course
is cast out of thy mind
To some thou givst larg doles of grace
to others thou givst lesse
Some towards glory, march apace
having a fivefold mese.
Some goe on weeping, all their days
as still under thy frown
Some they ar led, with glorious rays
Unto their happy, Crown.
Some speand their days, in doupts, & fears
and great anxiety
Some tast before hand, heavens Chear
Whilst in Christs arms, they ly.
On some much grace thou dost bestow
but no joy, in their race
Some with high joys doe over flow
that have but litle, grace.
Some att ther first conversion
ar shaken over hell
With sighs, & sorrows, theyr led on
in darknese, they doe dwell
Some feell, but few pangs, in their birth
But ar drawn in by love
And still led on, with joy, and mirth
unto the god above.
Great difirence, their is alsoe
in the same soull, at times
One while, his faith, & hope is low
anon, on high, it climbs.
Let me, by this, learn to adore
Thy holy, sov'raignty
Extolling free grace, evermore
henceforth, eternally
The freenese of thy grace is strange
