Chorus for a Play
For the children is the challenge of the giant
And the valley hath the vision of the hills
And they cry of things unconquered and defiant
Where the hunter of tomorrow hunts and kills
And well for them the dream of faerie fills
And the children of the twilight if they learn
The children of the twilight that discern not
The light that is the last of human ills
But none hath seen the mountain from the mount
And none hath found the tree-top in the tree.
Though the sea goes soaring sky-ward like a fount,
For the flat and goggling fishes of the sea
But to us the wave is level with the lea
And the sea is like a pool in barren places
Where we at evening find our fallen faces
And know they are no wearier than we.
