To the Thrice Noble, Learned, and Renowned Knight, Sr William Sydley

To the thrice noble, learned, and renowned knight, Sr William Sydley

Fame that acquaints my Muse with rarest men
Now makes thee subiect to her tongue, my pen
Thy rare perfections she should much neglect.
Should shee not set thee forth as Fame's elect!
Fortune to thee (as to fewe learn'd beside)
Giues great estate, and thy state dignifide;
But should shee giue thee what thou dost deserue
Shee should exhaust bir store thy turne to serue:
Sith thou turn'st all which how thou dost possesse
But to the seruice of true worthinesse.
