Peace of God

Peace of God, the sweetest blessing,
Ever spoke by mortal tongue,
Heard in anthems of the heavens,
Or by angel voices sung;
O'er the curse of sin and sorrow,
Spreading like a healing balm,
And upon the seas of trouble,
Falling like a blessed calm.
Passing thought and understanding,
Measured not by mortal span,
God himself the shoreless ocean,
Of the peace he gives to man;
Lord, I ask no greater blessing!
Give, oh, give thy peace to me:
Earth has not so rich a treasure,
As the peace I find in thee.

Sweetest story ever told;
Always new, and never old;
More than silver, more than gold, —
Precious peace of Jesus.
