The Two Wishes

A rose in my garden is nodding its head,
And the sun's crimson glow fills the petals with flame
As their fragrance is borne on the breeze,
As aroma floats far on the breeze;
And breathing the perfume so lavishly shed,
I blush like the rose, but with sorrow and shame,
At the blots on the book of my Past,
At the guilt and the ghosts of my Past;
And I would that the rays which the heavens o'erspread,
Might burn every leaf of the days that are dead.

A lily is swaying above the dark earth,
A stately white flower as pure as snow
Or the pendulous clouds in the sky,
The soft fleecy clouds in the sky;
And my soul is athirst for a holier birth,
For the rapture and peace that the Seraphim know,
And a heart that is purged of its sin,
That is free from its passion and sin;
That is chaste as the lily and stainless as snow,
Yet with Love's crimson roses is warmly aglow.
