American Icon

Too true, we're gun-obsessed.
See, we never had swords . " The ar-
bitrament of the sword " — if
mentioned — was mere bombast.
Homesteading/Hunting/War —
little blade-clash there; the whiff

of black powder rather. We shot
our way through History — two
centuries' killing-at-a-distance.
It's in the genes now. Or, if not,
in six-year-old gunslinger's who
embody cultural persistence.
