Not him I prize who poorly gains

66 Saturday, 23 June 1753

Nolo virum, facili redimit qui sanguine famam:
Hunc volo, laudari qui sine morte potest.
Mart. [Epigr. I viii 5 6]

Not him I prize who poorly gains
From death the palm which blood disdains;
But him who wins with nobler strife
An unpolluted wreath from life.
