81 Gods Promise Put the Soull into a Firmer Better State, then Any Thing of Merit could Doe, July 2 -

gods promise put the soull into a firmer better state, then any thing of merit could doe, July 2

Though by desert, we nothing claime
Yet promise free, makes itt the same

And what by merit, we cant reach
Thy faithfullnese, to plead will teach

Thy promise, is a surer ground
Then any meritt, can be found

By promise stablish'd in the hand
Of Christ, we now more, firmly stand

In our converses mediate
Then Adam, in his sinlese state

A promise we may feast upon
When outward comforts, we have none

The heirs of promise, happy are
And feed upon, delicious fare

The heirs of promise, they cannot
(Though all the world against them plot)

Be brought to totall misery
For why, ther comforts ar so high

And in the promise, lokt so fast
They cant out from their right be cast

Tis better have a promise gaurd
Then all the world, keep wacth, and ward

Thosse that know how, for to improve
By faith, a promise, may remove

With ease, all anxtious thoughts that may
Molest, or trouble, in their way

May I but in the bosome, lye
Of a promise, I shall then defie

The base, and subtle, enterprise
Of my most cruell enemies

In this sweet priviledg invest
And give to me an interest

In promises, through Christ alone
And I've enough to live upon.

A promise, that will cary through
This world, untill we reach unto.

The port of glory, where we shall
The crop, & harvest, reap of all.

That which in them, has been laid up
Shall then, be wrung into our cup.
