Sometimes I close my eyes and listen
To the stillness of my room
And listen to the sound beneath the tick
of my clock and the sound of the cat and the dog and the fish tank filter
Sometimes I close my eyes and listen
I hear the first layer sounds like ticking and water trickling and noise
and the second layer is far away, in the distance sound from my neighbors house or the road a few blocks down
The third layer is like a curtain
Big and exciting
Deep and mysterious
Really hard to find an opening
But if you do you can listen to silence
And once in a while I get through the he curtain and hear it
And sometimes It’s hard
And sometimes I hear nothing
I try to see the darkness of closed eyes
I know I’m looking at the back of my eyelids
But when red and blue swirls dance before my eyes
I try to decode the message someone is sending me
And I listen to the silence
and sometimes once in a while I hear it
