I’ve got a past but it’s all behind me
I’ve got a future but I won’t let it blind me
To what’s in the present and what needs to happen
I can think great thoughts but this world needs some action
Humanity has a mountain of troubles to conquer
If you don’t immediately start running up that hill
Before we know it we will be running on a treadmill
Losing breath and hope quicker than sand
In the hour glass of the earth
To which we all should lend a hand
This world is made of glass
It’s unbelievably brittle
We think we can see all
But we see so little
This planet is a never ending riddle
With too many questions to answer
And too many answers to fiddle
Is there a right and wrong?
Is there a good and evil?
And I’m stuck in the middle
Along with too many technicalities
To criticize and belittle
And I started this poem saying the world needs change
And it does
But no matter how many times I pretend to be a superhero
It doesn’t make me one
And sometimes I daydream I’m a wizard or spy
I want it to be real but all I can do is try
I want to reach for the stars
But they seem so far and I should stick to this planet
But there are too many faults here for me to possibly fix
And I’m out of tricks and words for this poem
And I need to relax
But humanity needs to be free
And Gandhi told me the only person you can change it is me
And my glasses are foggy but I don’t need them to see
All the pain and the war and the prisoners of greed
And I’m not sure if I’m the person to lead
But change needs to happen I can’t let it be
Too much disease and hatred and hunger and war
I cannot stand it anymore
Too many angry people who won’t let love in their heart
And once they do that while it’s only to start of
Happiness and peace and kindness and joy
So let my army of pacifists deploy
and soon we will climb beyond the mountain of former trouble
to look down at the valley where we are now and sigh
For it is only on ourselves that we can truly rely
