There you are. Struggling, straining
In peril and distress. Unable to make it
Not strong enough
They all said. Logically, obediently
“Leave well enough alone. Let nature take course
Do not touch.”
The villainous sand. Insurmountable, excruciating
For one so small. A marathon of inches
To the sea
I watched awhile. Hoping, cheering
Aiding might be costly. With so many nearby
Who don’t understand
They stay distant. Unaware, unattached
Standing back not engaging. Thinking best of ignoring
To weed weakness
Waiting is finished. Reaching, carrying
I conquer your impossible. With a gentle hand
And sandy feet
You swim free. Diving, gliding
Home at long last. You will be enough
Exactly your purpose
Again I watch. Triumphant, elated
Tuning out their gasps. Confident in my actions
I see myself
I’ve been there. Downtrodden, hopeless
Too much to bear. Going nowhere quickly
Not strong enough
My villains loomed. Treacherous, numerous
Outmatching each attempted move. Never to be overcome
Huge and impossible
Then someone came. Gently, generously
Freely offering costly aid. Firmly handing out hope
When others declined
We are free. Soaring, succeeding
Braving life’s unpredictable currents. Thankful to be deemed
Lives worth saving
