Gone To Sea
The wailing winds, they hold the cries
Of the destitutes, lost in its tides.
The sea holds a tale, it tries to hide
Perhaps it resents its own might.
For taken was the life of one
But gone are both mother and son.
Said the sea, 'I wandered on from land to land
Turning eyes, from this bloody hand.
This tale must be told for I cannot refrain
This ugly truth I can no more contain.
For taken was the life of one
But gone are both mother and son.
Her's was a humble household, yes
For, the dishevelled hair and plain dress.
Honest and kind in all she was
Found ceaseless sorrow, the final loss.
For taken was the life of one
But gone are both mother and son.
And the irony of the vagrant's poverty
Her dark face, a light in times of misery.
That day, she saved one, she saved three
And has forever, forever burdened me.
For taken was the life of one
But gone are both mother and son.
And there within the seeming cottage
Her two rocks, relishing scraps she salvaged.
And I, in my vilest form yet, upon their land
Each boy she held with either hand.
For taken was the life of one
But gone are both mother and son.
The wailing winds, the storming sea
Both boys were slipping, she could feel.
The older, arrogant but kind
The younger, a gem hard to find.
Why Oh why taken was the life of one
Now gone are both mother and son.
A weeping heart, a conflicted soul
She kissed the younger, let him go.
His sweet voice echoed in my abysmal sea
While mother and brother safe at the creek.
Why did I take the life of one?
For I have murdered both mother and son.
