Fir Trees

Snow loves the trees:
they give it shape and structure
turning white nothingness
into a work of art.
It envelops gently,
shrouds their spikiness,
surrounding them
in tree-shaped haloes
till they seem no longer
wood, but trees of snow.
They acquiesce in silence:
trees are not meek
but patient, and they know
next week the rain will come.
