11. Purgation
Man is a time-piece which never stops .
P URGATION
A LITTLE space of daylight and of gloom,
Of pain and dim delight, and then the tomb,
Whereat the whole is over and is gone—
Those scenes forget us where of old we toil'd:
Sad is it surely; but the soul assoil'd
Its path appointed takes, and still goes on.
Now, therefore, where Thy Holy Place begins,
Bid us, we pray Thee, pause, and purge our sins!
Let us seek to enter with pure minds, but remember that enter we must .
