Make thine award, Thalia, cease
To dally. Canst thou not discern
Who for the epigrams of Greece
The first and second crowns should earn?
Go to Callimachus and learn
That Brutianus first must be;
And if from Greece to Rome he turn,
Give thou the second place to me!
