On the 38 and 39 Verses of the 8th Chapter of Romans

On the 38 and 39 Verses of the 8th Chapter of Romans .

Unto God's House I often went,
 A blessing have receiv'd;
But Oh! how chang'd, how sad am I!
 I sat me down and griev'd.

But Oh! these Words, the charming Words,
 Sweeter than Honey are;
Not the worth of India's Wealth
 With them can e'er compare.

'Tis not the Riches of Peru
 Their worth can ever buy;
Far brighter to my Soul are these
 Then Diamonds to my eye.

Not Bread to those that are in want,
 More nourishment can give;
Oh! sure I eat these Words by Faith,
 And on the Promise live.

Not Water to the thirsty Soul
 Can more refreshing be;
Then have these Words, these charming Words,
 Of late oft been to me.

There's nothing now that present is,
 Or ever yet shall be;
Nor height nor depth shall separate
 The love of Christ from me.

Ev'n Death shall never part us, no,
 But greater Joys shall give;
I in his presence shall rejoice,
 And ever with him live.
