Twice only in his life and hers they met:
One meager day, two fleeting nights;
Flaming with meteor-lights
Or where the grey rains set
Their curtains to sway and fret;
Once in the sun and moon,
Once in the dusk and rain;
Passionate once with June
Singing a maddening tune,
And once again
Shadowed and hushed and strange with ghosts of voiceless pain. . . .
