56 A Lasting Name -

A lasting name

If thou wouldst eternise thy fame
when thou art dead, and gone
How sweet, and pleasing, is the name
of the Just holy one

some litle time has worn away
remembrance of great things,
and mighty monarcks bearing sway
over inferiour kings.

But if thy name, be writen down
in the book of the lamb
Thou shalt have true, lasting, renown
and never-dying fame.

What if thy name, be light sett by
and troden under feett
God will advance it up on high
and wipe all durt from itt.

Doth gods dishonour thy soull launce
is his name dear, to thee
In everlasting remembrance
thy name shall surely bee.

With holynese, thy soull adorn
and with humility
Thy god shall then, exhalt thy horn
'Spight, of the enemy

The name of wicked men shall rott
and be, by all abhor'd
But thine, shall never be forgot
but still be on record.
