Advice to the Fair
Ye Maidens fair, shun every Man,Beware of him in Red;
The one may force, the other try
To sooth you to his Bed.
For what's a Pistol, Sword, or Gun,
If Virtue's in the way?
But, Oh! the Tongue, the flatt'ring Tongue,
It's Thousands does betray!
If a fine Person is a Man,
And has a handsome Face;
Oh! how I tremble for the Maid,
When such a Man turns base!
It needs more strength than any Man,
To conquer Satan's wiles;
How can a feeble Woman stand
When each upon her Smiles!
Oh! pray to God to give you strength
In a Redeemer dear;
He's a firm Rock, you'll surely find;
'Tis safety, standing there.English
