Amour
Like to the world my love I find to be,
Like to the earth my faith itself doth show,
And like the thrilling winds my sighs do blow:
Like to the fire my burning jealousy,
And as a rock my heart in constancy.
Ardent affection is like to the Summer;
My fear cold Winter, senses all benummer,
And like the Spring is memory in me.
Like to the waters are my eye-spent showers,
My thoughts of April are the fading flowers,
My flame like to the Sun is rightly ta'en,
Like to the boundless heaven desire hath been.
My hopes like to the moon do wax and wane;
But Autumn yet in me was never seen.
Like to the earth my faith itself doth show,
And like the thrilling winds my sighs do blow:
Like to the fire my burning jealousy,
And as a rock my heart in constancy.
Ardent affection is like to the Summer;
My fear cold Winter, senses all benummer,
And like the Spring is memory in me.
Like to the waters are my eye-spent showers,
My thoughts of April are the fading flowers,
My flame like to the Sun is rightly ta'en,
Like to the boundless heaven desire hath been.
My hopes like to the moon do wax and wane;
But Autumn yet in me was never seen.
