Another Epigram on the same Subject
Your frowzy folk in times of yore,
In woollen slept, and woollen wore.
They rubb'd and wash'd , and oil'd each day,
To keep the vermin swarms away;
We with more cleanliness are bred,
And leave our sheeps wool to the dead .
Is there a modern beau alive
The cause would for the ancients give;
We wish not that their baths were ours,
Their fragrant wreaths of twisted flowers ,
Their oils , their unguents , and their heats ,
Give us fresh linnen and clean sheets .
In woollen slept, and woollen wore.
They rubb'd and wash'd , and oil'd each day,
To keep the vermin swarms away;
We with more cleanliness are bred,
And leave our sheeps wool to the dead .
Is there a modern beau alive
The cause would for the ancients give;
We wish not that their baths were ours,
Their fragrant wreaths of twisted flowers ,
Their oils , their unguents , and their heats ,
Give us fresh linnen and clean sheets .
