Be Dumb!

Show me thy perfect face,
Bind me in thy embrace,
But do not speak;
For speech would prove thine eyes
Dupe me with lies,
And that thy heart is bleak.

Show me thy perfect face,
Thy body's lissom grace,
But say no word;
A word the spell would break,
I would awake
The moment that I heard.

Show me thy perfect face,
But let no word abase
Its beauty, and reveal
That there is nought behind —
No soul nor mind
To think, and love, and feel.

Show me thy perfect face,
And for a little space
Thy speech control;
And my blind eyes will swear
Thy body fair
Has mind, and heart, and soul!
