Osprey nest their rising dollars upright
search on their own and have no electricity
or heat or car no money of their own
only my shadow under their right turns
how does the rest of it go I have wondered disencumbered
at lunch yesterday with Maria I said
experience is a repeating decimal
and she said well it wasn’t at least
the steady movement out of the body’s slipper
I nap and dream in portrait and landscape
sleep when the baby sleeps and osprey spin
drifting off their nests grin sly subtleties
blotchy the wing storm-sympathetic
dives slavishly to talon bright scales
coho that twist as they silhouette away
I guess osprey are tearing people apart too
something is
yet my engine mutters rain
whatever I have been doing all my life
I am doing now
a have-been with reverb
blues its own tickets
